Thank you to everyone who answered our survey and continues engaging with our office daily! We are so honored to have the opportunity to serve.
Here are our goals for 2025:
Step up our internal constituent services operations. We have a great team ready to serve and do it better for you! You can count on constituent issues being addressed in a timely manner and solutions being addressed in a way that everyone is heard and valued.
Enhancing our messaging: Educating our constituents on what is happening in our district and in our city is critical for good decision-making and awareness. We will continue to attend community meetings and add to our weekly e-newsletters, social media, and annual paper newsletter. We will also add town halls to our communications.
Asking the tough questions: Asking questions helps to hold our agencies and partners accountable for our work on behalf of the public.
Policy Initiatives
We will continue the work we started in our first term.
Housing
This includes the three basic tenants of our housing work including:
Eliminating vacant and abandoned properties through rehab or demo - this includes continuing to work on creating the tools necessary to address this crisis, and advocacy to ensure our current tools like In Rem are maximized, working, and supported. This also includes an effective permit office and internal systems working.
Increasing affordable housing - this includes ensuring the Inclusionary Housing bill is implemented, production of affordable units increases, and we look for additional financing for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
Keeping residents in their homes - this includes continued work on tax sale reform so no one loses their homes to tax sale, increasing opportunities for home repair, and reform of our landlord licensing laws so tenants have decent housing.
Oversight: Work with the Housing and Community Development Committee on oversight of various work done by city agencies on housing related issues, for instance the permit office, grants management, and more.
Traffic Calming and Transportation
Our list of 311 requests for traffic calming is the highest in the city, and we work hard to ensure every part of the district receives its priority traffic calming. It may be challenging if the request is a larger and more costly repair. Our list includes speed bumps, crossing signals, crosswalks, and the removal of unnecessary signage. If you have a traffic calming issue, please put in a 311 and send us the confirmation number.
We are thinking about putting the District 14 Bus Group back together to help advocate for better public transportation in the district. This group was formed under my predecessor. If that is something you are interested in, please let us know here.
Clean and Green
We are reviving our Clean, Green District 14 campaign and initiative. If you would like to join, please let us know here. So far this initiative partnered with Ednor Gardens Lakeside to place signs on the medians along The Alameda and Loch Raven which has reduced the illegal dumping on the medians. There is a lot more to do to make sure our streets and allies are clean!
Public Safety
Supporting the Baltimore City Fire Department is critical to the safety of our residents. Preventing fires and working to reduce vacants makes sure that our firefighters are not overwhelmed and are safe.
We will continue working with the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement and BPD to continue our work on key pockets of our communities that still need attention.
Protecting and including our vulnerable communities
It is important to make sure that whatever happens at the federal level, that our residents feel supported. Our city is a welcoming city and our immigrant community helps us thrive. We will not tolerate any negative rhetoric and mistreatment towards our immigrant neighbors.
We will continue to work with the Administration to implement language access throughout City government so that anyone, regardless of what language they speak, can access city services.
We will support state legislation that will work to protect the privacy, information, and data of our immigrant community.
Ensuring city services work for you
We will continue to work to make sure our first responders have the support they need, our city services are efficient, effective, and supported, and that all city services work for you.
