Housing Tip of the Week: Burst Pipes

Severe Weather Alert: Protect Your Home!

Baltimore, freezing temperatures are on the way! The Baltimore City Fire Department wants to help you stay safe and protect your home from frozen pipes. Here's how:

  1. Let faucets drip: Running water, even at a trickle, can prevent pipes from freezing.

  2. Open cabinets: Keep warm air circulating around pipes under sinks, especially if they’re on exterior walls.

  3. Insulate pipes: Use pipe insulation or even towels to wrap exposed pipes.

  4. Keep the heat on: Maintain a consistent temperature inside your home, even if you’re away.

  5. Know where your water shutoff valve is: Quick action can prevent water damage if a pipe bursts.
