District 14 Virtual Town Hall - City’s COVID 19 Vaccine Plan
Last Wednesday, our District 14 Virtual Town Hall was a conversation with Baltimore City Health Department’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kendra McDow and D’Paul Nibber, the Health Department’s Legislative Director. Here is the full video.
Dr. McDow explained that the vaccine does NOT have live virus in it, and it was developed through RNA vaccine already heavily researched. It does not alter your DNA and the only side effects may be soreness in the arm and fatigue for a little while.
Dr. McDow also emphasized that while all residents falling in the phase 1A,B and C categories are eligible for the vaccine, there is not enough of it. It has been a very frustrating experience for them too not to have enough vaccine. The Baltimore City Community College site is for 2nd doses only.
Older adults are encouraged to go ahead and get in the queue for the Baltimore City Convention Center and also for other providers. You will complete an interest form, and then the City or provider will contact you.

If you do not have access to the internet, the Maryland Access Point system is available to people 65 and older. Call 410-396-2273 to have someone help you complete the interest form.
Other providers are also offering the vaccine, however, supplies are still limited, so you will be put into the queue and get a call back.
We have developed the District 14 COVID Vaccine working group to help with outreach and volunteers, and grassroots organizing to get everyone vaccinated. We will be working with the Health Dept on this effort.
