District 14 Town Hall - Mayor’s Office of Employment Development

Last Week's District 14 Virtual Town Hall

Mayor's Office of Employment Development

We had an excellent Town Hall last week learning about what the Mayor's Office of Employment Development is doing to help residents find work, and employers hire the right people. We also had two News-Flash updates! Click here for the Facebook Live video and click here for the You Tube video.

Director Jason Perkins-Cohen outlined that the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development provides services to help residents find jobs, and work with employers to find workers. There are 3 centers around the City that residents can go to for assistance with resumes and job searching. Here is the link to see which center is near you.

Yvette Clark and Deral Falls work with MOED specifically with workers. They have seen the demand for higher wages and flexible hours as well as virtual options increase. As workers demand more, MOED is working with employers to meet those demands.

We had two News Flashes during this Town Hall:

  1. The Mayor and MOED announced the opportunity to form 5 new Community Job Hubs for the Community Job Hub Network. They will place one staffer at a nonprofit community partner organization to assist with job searches, so that residents don’t have to go to one of the three centers. If you are interested in forming a Job Hub at your organization, click here.

  2. Ms. Clark announced that MOED has a significant grant from the federal government to subsidize wages to meet the demands that workers have for higher pay. They will help employers who qualify pay up to $18 per hour for their jobs, up to $6000 per year per worker. This is an exciting development and more will be announced soon.
