District 14 Virtual Town Hall - General Assembly Wrap Up
It was such an honor to have our fabulous women of the 40th, 41st and 43rd Districts during our District 14 Virtual Town Hall last week!
Senator Jill Carter from the 41st district detailed her police reform efforts and the repeal of the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights.
Senator Mary Washington of the 43rd District highlighted her work for homeless youth and the override of the Governor's veto on the women's pre-release unit. Prior to this legislation there was no pre-release unit for women, a chance for incarcerated women to get the transition, training, and readiness they need to leave prison.
Chairwoman McIntosh of the 43rd District could not contain her excitement for all of the amazing projects that can be funded in the 43rd thanks to the federal money and the work of her committee. She announced that the city is getting $5million to address our flood area on 35th and Hillen, along with so many other great projects.
Delegate Boyce of the 43rd District worked on a bill to allow Baltimore City to have differential tax rates, which didn’t pass but we’ll be working on it next session. She had a bill about bereavement leave and also urban agriculture tax credit. She also lead many bills on the floor of the House.
Delegate Wells of the 41st District also lead several bills on the floor and held the City’s legislation as well. She worked hard on the Local Control of BPD legislation which gives us a path to get local control of the City’s Police Department.
