Older Adults Aging in Place and Housing:
Gilchrist - Has built a new facility on Stadium Place to ensure that no one dies alone. Their in home hospice care will be a great asset to our communities as well. Gilchrist provides hospice services and medical needs for end of life care for those aging in place. Learn more here.
St. Mary’s Outreach Center - St. Mary’s Outreach Center provides free and confidential services to men and women (55+) in Baltimore City to improve their financial, physical, and emotional well-being, particularly those aging in place. Find out more here.
Keswick Multicare Center - Keswick provides care for nursing care for older adults, but also helps older adults age in place, and provides the Wise and Well center as a place for gathering and learning. Learn more here.
Human Services/Food Security:
Marian House - Located in Better Waverly, Marian House has provided a holistic, healing community for women and their children who are in need of housing and support services. For decades they have provided a safe, sober and loving environment that challenges women to respect and love themselves, confront emotional and socio-economic issues, and transition to stable and independent lives. Hampden Family Center - Located in Hampden, The Hampden Family Center provides a variety of support services for adults, and enrichment for children. Learn more here.
The BIT Center - Now located in and serving several neighborhoods in District 14, Be A Chef For A Day provides home cooked meals delivered to the doors of residents in need. They also work hard to end food insecurity through advocacy. Learn more here.
Franciscan Center - Located close to D14, this historic organization serves people in need through their daily lunch program, case management, and clothing. Learn more here.
Centro Sol - Located in south Baltimore, Centro Sol assists our Latino community with health education and services. Learn more here.
Esperanza Center - Located in South Baltimore, Esperanza Center has helped several of our D14 residents with various services. The organization works to serve and empower our Latino immigrant community. Learn more here.
Community Development Organizations and Community Associations who are formal nonprofits
Civic Works - Located on Clifton Park, Civic Works strengthens Baltimore’s communities through education, skills development, and community service. The organization leads the Real Food Farm, manages the HUBS program for seniors aging in place, job training and placement in the community development and green technologies fields, and more. They are the stewards of the Clifton Mansion and advocates for Clifton Park. Learn more here.
Waverly Main Street - The Waverly Main Street district is Greenmount Avenue from 29th Street north to 35th Street and some side streets in between. The organization works to attract businesses to the area and promotes the area to customers. Learn more here.
Coldstream Homestead Montebello Community Corporation - While the office of CHMCC is located on the City College campus nearby, the organization works hard to advocate for and revitalize the neighborhood of Coldstream Homestead Montebello. Learn more here.
GEDCO - GEDCO is the owner and operator of Stadium Place, a 425-unit affordable apartment development for older adults and Heritage Run senior market rate apartments on the same campus. Learn more here.
Greater Remington Improvement Association - GRIA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization serving the Remington community, advocating for the interest of the residents. Learn more here.
Charles Village Community Foundation - This nonprofit organization serves all of Charles Village and hosts the Charles Village Festival and other initiatives. There is no website to be able to make donations.
Charles Village Community Benefits District - The Benefits District serves all of Charles Village and Abell in District 14 (and surrounding areas). It was formed to provide more safety and sanitation services to the area in 1995. While it is funded with a surtax on residents, the organization is a 501c3 nonprofit as well. Learn more here.
Friends of Wyman Park Dell - The Wyman Park Dell is the park located on 29th and N. Charles Street, consisting of a playground and further down the hill a nice park. It is nestled between N. Charles and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Learn more here.
Central Baltimore Partnership - While not located in District 14, the Central Baltimore Partnership has been instrumental in bringing resources to the area, including their spruce up grants for the parks, curb appeal, and more. They are a partner with the Waverly Main Street to bring businesses to the district, and are expanding their reach into Waverly. Learn more here.
The Arts
901 Arts - Located in Better Waverly, 901 Arts is a community-based youth arts center dedicated to providing art and music programs to the children and teens of the Better Waverly neighborhood. Learn more here.
Baltimore Museum of Art - Located in the Charles Village area near Johns Hopkins University, the BMA is a world-renowned museum with unique collections and programs to engage artists and art enthusiasts. Learn more here.
Art with a Heart - Located along Falls Road by the Jones Falls, Art with a Heart helps people in need through the visual arts. They provide art classes and assistance to market the art of their participants. Learn more here.
Make Studio - Located in Hampden, Make Studio empowers artists with disabilities to grow as professionals with visibility and voice in their communities. They create opportunities for everyone to connect through art. Learn more here.
Community activities:
29th Street Community Center - Located just outside of the 14th District, the 29th Street Community Center provides programming for youth and adults. It is the home of Sing-Along Playgroup, afterschool programs, and the Gertrude S. Williams Speaker Series. Please put in the memo your gift is for the 29th Street Community Center. Learn more here.
Waverly (Weinberg) Y - The Y has been a welcome amenity in our district! Complete with a fitness center, pool, youth programming, community built playground, and more! Learn more here.
Baltimore Community Mediation Center - Located on Greenmount Avenue, Baltimore City Community Mediation (BCMC) has provided free mediation services and teaches conflict resolution skills in neighborhoods, families, schools, business, and all across Baltimore. Learn more here.
The Village Learning Place - Located in Charles Village just outside of our District, the Village Learning Place is a community run library and learning center with a full scale lending library, afterschool and summer programming, adult lectures, and more. Learn more here.
Girl Scouts of America - Located in Baltimore City, I know several girls in our district who are in Girl Scouts, and are selling cookies right now! They are ready to be our future leaders. Learn more here.
Boy Scouts of America - Located on 28th and Sisson where the Baltimore regional headquarters is in our District, the Scouts work with boys and now with girls to build our future leaders. Learn more here.
Baltimore Family Alliance - Dedicated to helping families live and stay in Baltimore City, the Baltimore Family Alliance serves families Citywide helping connect them to neighbors and each other to support family living in Baltimore. Learn more here.
Books and more!
The Book Thing - Located in Abell near Greenmount Avenue, the Book Thing is like a book swap. Residents bring books and can browse the collections to take books. For about a year, the Book Thing has been closed because of problems with paperwork with the IRS. Recently the volunteer Board of Directors announced their reinstatement with the IRS and soon the Book Thing will be operational. Learn more here.
Enoch Pratt Free Library - Enoch Pratt Free Library provides our communities with books, computer access, internet access, programing and more for all ages. The Waverly Branch is in the 14th District, and the Hampden Branch is not in our district but serves the area. Learn more Here.
