Housing Tip of the Week 8.26.2024 Rental Scams

For our Housing Tip of the Week I want to make renters aware of two scams happening. The first is that someone will offer an apartment online and ask you for your first month’s rent and security deposit before even seeing the unit or signing a lease. Do not give anyone any money until a proper lease is signed and you see the unit. Another scam is when a person creates a fake lease pretending they own a property and rent to you, but they are not the owner. You can make sure this does not happen to you by looking up ownership and asking questions.
