Update on Y expansion, Y Playground, and Greenspace

Last weekend the greenspace at the Y/Stadium Place site was closed for construction of the extended Y area, which includes a new splash pad and pavilion for public use, and the new Y preschool. Once construction is finished the greenspace will be open again. Access to the green space is closed off for one year as there are sediment control and safety concerns which closed off the area.

Below is a list of alternatives that residents can take advantage of while the greenspace is closed.

In Ednor Gardens:

  • Ednor Gardens Lakeside Community Garden - Chestnut Hill Road in between Loch Raven and Monterey Rd - Dogs Allowed but must be kept on leash

  • Andover and North Hill Park - Rear of 1116 Andover Road - Dogs allowed but must be kept on leash

  • Thanksgiving Place - next to the Y on 33rd Street - Dogs not allowed.

In Waverly:

  • Chestnut Hill Park - 601 Chestnut Hill Road - Dogs allowed but must be kept on leash

  • The Old York Community Farm - Old York Road and E 36th Street - Dogs not allowed.

  • Venable Lot - Venable and Old York Road - (currently private property but will belong to Baltimore City soon) - Dogs allowed but must be kept on leash

In Better Waverly

  • Montpelier and 30th Street park - 801 Montpelier Street - Dogs allowed but must be on leash.

Other areas in the 14th District:

  • Lake Montebello - Lake Montebello is closed to vehicle traffic. Please park on Hillen Road or walk. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash. There is no dog run there because this is our water treatment facility.

  • JHU Eastern Track (back of building) - great walking track open dawn to dusk - no dogs allowed. Is often used by track teams during school.

  • JHU Homewood Field Track - also a great walking track open dawn to dusk - no dogs allowed. Is often used by track teams during school.

  • Wyman Park Dell - 2929 N. Charles Street in Charles Village - Dogs are allowed but must be on leash.

  • Wyman Park/Stony Run - The lower meadow can be accessed on Tudor Arms and Craycomb. You must keep your dog on leash at all times here, the trail, and near the playgounds.

  • Clifton Park - This is such a great park with lots to offer. Parking along St. Lo Drive is allowed so you can enjoy all the parts of the park. There is also a golf course, new tennis courts, a playground, Clifton Mansion, basketball courts and more. If you park near old Lake Clifton campus you can access nice fields as well as the amenities.

  • Sherwood Gardens - Highfield and Greenway in Guilford. The gardens are beautiful. Families are welcome, dogs must be on a leash.

  • Linkwood Park - Located on Coldspring Lane and Linkwood, this park is huge and has a nice playground. Dogs welcome but must be on a leash. There is plenty of shade at this park.

Other areas - a new dog park is coming to NE Baltimore soon, it will be enclosed. We are awaiting details for location and when it will be opened. There is a separated dog park at Patterson Park along Linkwood Road.

Also, update on the Y Playground, there are major repairs that need to get done before the playground can be opened. We are hopeful the repairs get done and the Playground is opened in the next month or so.
